The motors used in big-big locomotives are “Mabuchi 35” can motors.

Has anyone ever found a source of spare motors or brushes, apart from buying old / scrap big-big locos?

Did Novo use Mabuchi motors or Russian ones?

    Mike,

I have found these motors to be very rugged and easy to maintain or refurbish. Haven’t had the need for spare motors yet.

I’ve been very busy with work lately so not much time to fool around with Big Big Trains but I am planning to post about refurbishing a motor. The are easy to take apart once you get the hang of it.

    Cheers,

    Dave

Are you still looking for motors?

Refer to my recent posting “New 3 Vdc motors”

Hi Steve, not any more: I bought one on eBay and also got one in an otherwise wrecked Hymek. I did have one that failed on me because the brushes actually wore out – it’s the only one that I have seen fail. I think it was simply used to failure.
